"Music can change the world because it can change people."
~ Bono

Cancer patients at Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento are getting help with healing, thanks to a music therapy program that is bringing new light into their lives. "We are in a really sacred space. And music can provide a lot of room for expression. But it can also make people feel incredibly vulnerable," Pavis said. "There might be someone who is really holding back from processing a certain emotion, and a certain song lyric is going to trigger that. So, we're there in that moment to be a therapeutic presence." McConnell Music Therapists, like Sarah Pavis, will play music for patients while they are undergoing chemotherapy and other treatments. The patients can sing along or just listen. DAVIS – Barbara Smaystryla came to Sutter Medical Foundation’s infusion center on Monday and got a lot more than she intended: She was introduced to the Hapi drum, enjoyed listening to one of Sutter Davis Hospital’s music therapists sing her favorite tune and learned useful breathing exercises. Tara McConnell, owner of McConnell Music Therapy Services, and Daniel Beseda, a music therapist with the company, helped debut the music therapy program at Sutter Davis Hospital on Monday. McConnell Music Therapy Services partners with Sutter Health to provide music therapy services in several of its facilities, including Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento and Sutter Children’s Center, Sacramento. Daniel spends most of his week working with pediatric and adult patients at the Sacramento campus. Click here to READ MORE.....
